Searching for a decent search engine optimization company and a lawyer are very much alike—and since you’re a lawyer or work for a law firm, then you know a good attorney when you see one.
Advertisements promise you the world, but since you’re smart you know that many of these can be deceiving. So if you already have an SEO provider, how do you decide if they’re living up to their end of the bargain and actually benefiting your law firm?
The best way to accomplish this task is to ask your SEO company these three questions:
1. “How has organic traffic changed since I hired you?”
SEO providers will often try to show website improvements in terms of total website visits. However, what really matters is whether there has been an increase in organic traffic. Your SEO company’s answer should be along the lines of: “Since you hired us, there has been a 200% increase in organic traffic and this progress has increased our rankings in these ways.”
2. “What strategies are you using? How are they benefiting my law firm?”
You want an SEO company that isn’t going to try and cram every client into a preconceived mold. Every law firm doesn’t fit into a specific approach; therefore, your provider should be able to think critically about every client they have on a one-on-one level. Your SEO company should be able to relay your firm’s challenges and reassure you that your problems are being handled on an individual basis.
3. “What’s the link building strategy for my law firm and what are the results?”
In addition to high quality content, backlinks are the lifeblood of search engine rankings. Without a solid link building strategy, your website will not see the results you desire. Google’s algorithm doesn’t care if you think you’re the best attorney in the country. If your website doesn’t have links from reputable sources, search engines will never direct potential clients to your website.
Your SEO company should be able to show you that they are regularly doing link outreach and that this outreach is returning a certain number of client contacts (not just links).
