Attending the latest legal conference may not sound like the most exciting venture, but it can bring with it many benefits to you and your law firm. There are a variety of tips to consider before heading to your conference so that you can make the most of your time and feel as if you’ve been successful in making new contacts.
- Research who will attend. Find out colleagues and possible clients who may be attending the same conference. Make a list of those whom you would like meet or get to know better.
- Chart sessions in advance. Check out the agenda and decide which sessions will be most beneficial to your firm.
- Attend social events. You may feel like skipping out on social hour and retiring early to your room, but it’s in your best interest to utilize social events for networking.
- Follow up with your contacts. Linked in and Twitter are excellent forms of social media through which lawyers can interact with potential clients. Don’t wait too long to get in contact after the conference.
- Pursue networking opportunities. A legal conference is not the time to be a wallflower. Put on your charm, get out there and meet and greet.
