As 2015 comes to a close and we evaluate our own lives and the need for change, now is a perfect time to evaluate the life of your legal website. Refreshing a website can be costly and time consuming, so it’s likely not something you want to undertake if you don’t have to.
Below are five questions to consider when deciding if changes to your current website would be beneficial to your law firm or unnecessary:
- Has the website been updated recently? If the website has not been updated since smartphones have been invented, then it is definitely time for a change. The first iPhone was released in 2007. If your website has not been updated since, chances are it was not made to function well on mobile devices like tablets or smartphones. Your website makeover should include responsive design, which means it will automatically respond to whatever device someone is using.
- Is it mobile friendly? The majority of people no longer surf the web via a laptop or desktop, but rather from their smartphones. Is your website easily read from a smartphone or tablet device? Read our related article about becoming a mobile friendly website.
- Are your clients engaged in conversation? Do you have social media that is integrated with your website in order for your clients or prospects to follow you and engage with your firm? Are you connected to Facebook or Twitter?
- Does your site look exciting compared to competitor websites? You, as a lawyer, are a consumer as well. When you look at your website compared to competitors, does it stand out, or are you completely bored? You may want to consider a fresh new look and design. Does it scream 1990’s as opposed to 2016? Consider new images, fresh copy and a new home page design. Do you have videos to spark the interest of your prospects?
- Is your website ranking high in the Google rankings? How is your law firm ranking compared to your competitors in Google? Is the SEO on your website a disaster? It is time to get a search engine boost with the proper SEO practices so that you start ranking higher in the SERPS.
