If you’ve seen a significant drop in your website’s traffic over the last month or two, there may be a good reason for that—you’re website might not be mobile-friendly.
Why is Mobile-Friendly so Important?
Back in March of 2015, Google announced that it was updating its algorithm to rank mobile-friendly websites, also known as responsive sites, higher on search engine results than websites without mobile capabilities.
People are now utilizing the Internet on their tablets and smartphones more and desktop computers less. In fact, an average of 46.5% of all online traffic comes from mobile devices. This means it’s possible that just under half of the prospective clients visiting your law firm’s website are accessing it via a mobile device.
The algorithm change that started on April 21st hurt many businesses and law firms, both large and small. Some didn’t know about the change or others didn’t care to spend the money redesigning their websites. A report by Vizibility says that 53% of the 350 largest law firms still do not have responsive sites.
How Do You Know if Your Website is Mobile-Friendly?
If a website is not responsive—meaning it is difficult to read on a mobile device, the links are hard to click, and images are out of proportion—many people will just move on to the next site that is.
Luckily, checking your website for mobile-friendliness is simple. One easy way is to check it yourself by pulling out your smart phone and searching for your website. On the search engine result page (SERP), you should see the tag “mobile-friendly” written directly under the URL.
Another option is to run your site through Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test. Just enter your URL and Google will analyze it. Google’s Search Console is a helpful tool to get data, tips, and diagnostics on your site in order to make it even more mobile-friendly.
If your site is already responsive, great! But if you find that your site isn’t mobile-friendly, it’s important that you redesign your site as soon as possible. You don’t want to miss any more online traffic and prospective clients.
