A recent underpublicized change made by Google deals with how the front page of Google will receive search results for businesses. This change can alter how potential clients find your law firm’s website.
Prior to this change, Google would place seven query results on the right hand side of the results page. Now, the search page will feature a three-hit group referred to as a “snack pack.”
This change will simplify the way users view search results. Previously, when search results were displayed, viewers could see a firm’s phone number, office address and web address—they will no longer see these results. Also, before the change, clicking on a result would provide visitors with the query result; now it will provide them with a list of competing firms.
In order to avoid poor search results, law firms will need to update the way they are listed in Google’s system. Firms need to google themselves and verify the information found. Afterwards, take a trip to your firm’s profile and ensure you’ve filled in all of the information, including:
- Name
- Contact information
- Web address
- Practice areas
- Any other important information, including reviews
