A recent study conducted by an Orlando-based law firm and search expert Michael Blumenthal has concluded that the Millennial generation, specifically people age 18 to 24, is using internet searches to find their attorney of choice as opposed to the traditional “word of mouth.”
The survey originally asked 19,539 consumers when they last hired a lawyer. They then narrowed down the search and asked the 1,578 people that had hired in the past year this question: “How did you find the lawyer you hired?” Over a third of respondents still said through traditional referrals; however, 15.5 percent said they found legal help by searching the internet.
As this research shows, it is still vital to have a great reputation in your community as a top-notch law firm so that people will refer your services to their friends, family, neighbors and coworkers. However, it is also evident that the younger generation is now seeking legal counsel through Google, Yahoo and other search engines.
The future of finding lawyers lies in internet searches.
As you can see, it is important to continually update your legal website with quality content that can be easily indexed by search engines. A strong online presence (with social networking, of course) is necessary in this day and age.
